BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – Schools open in a few short weeks and the school board will make sure all is in order for the opening during its meeting tonight.
The agenda is long – 29 pages – but many items are routine – including approving a leave of absence for a staff member, stipends, approving employment of various aides, accepting resignations, etc.
Among the top items will be the board accepting the retirement of Superintendent of Schools Judith Rattner as of Dec. 1, 2018, and accepting a shared services agreement with the Berkeley Heights Police Department to hire Class III Special Law Enforcement Officers for a term of five years.
The board will move into Executive Session when it convenes at 6:30 p.m., to “discuss the following subjects, all of which are included in the aforesaid exceptions: Personnel - Retirement of Superintendent, Substitute/ Supplemental Personnel, Additional Summer 2018 Employment, 2018-2019 Employment Contract of Assistant Superintendent, 2018-2019 Employment Contract of School Business Administrator, Appointments, Employment of Interpreters for the Deaf, Extension of Unpaid Child Care Leave of Absence, Re-Employment of Substitute/Replacement Guidance Counselor, Revised Salary Figures, Resignations, ReEmployment of Computer Technician, Extra Teaching Period Assignments, ExtraCurricular Activities, Employment of Paraprofessionals, Retirement, Employment of HELP/Instructional Review Personnel, Employment of Lunchroom/Playground Teacher Aides, Transfer of Personnel, Payment of Stipends to Paraprofessionals, Unpaid Leave of Absence; Student Matters; Negotiations,” according to the agenda.
The board will reconvene and the public session will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Columbia Middle School Vocal Music Room. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting.
