SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A Kendall Park resident, who was suspended as a Trenton police officer after being arrested last year in a multi-agency initiative targeting child predators and child pornography offenders, has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

Paul Marinelli, 53, pleaded guilty Friday to possession of child pornography, a third-degree crime, before Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Benjamin S. Bucca Jr., New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said.

As part of the plea agreement, the state will recommend Marinelli be sentenced to 180 days in the county jail and a term of probation. Marinelli was suspended after his arrest and must forfeit his position on the police force as a result of the guilty plea.

Marinelli was arrested in an investigation by the New Jersey State Police Digital Technology Investigations Unit after the New Jersey State Police received information that emails containing child pornography were found in an iCloud email account maintained by Marinelli.
