Two Arrested for Marijuana Possession and Distribution on Maple Street

August 19, 2013 at 2:24 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Aug. 12, Craig Henderson, 45, of New York, and Devon Abu Gray, 19, of West Orange, were arrested for possession and distrubtion of marijuana on Maple Street in the Lourdes Section of town.

The Special Investigations Unit had received several complaints from neighbors in July and August regarding the distribution of narcotics by Gray, a resident of Maple Street. On Aug. 12 at approximately 11:45, police surveillance observed a blue Toyota Camry facing west on Maple Street near Mississippi Avenue. The vehicle was occupied by a black male later identified as Henderson. Police then observed Gray exit his residence on Maple Street and engage in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand transaction with Henderson. Once Gray re-entered his residence and Henderson traveled west on Maple, police performed a motor vehicle stop.

According to police, Henderson appeared nervous and police detected the odor of marijuana in the interior compartment of the vehicle. He admitted to police, "I have one bag; I bought it from Abu." He was placed under arrest and the vehicle searched.  Police also found a vanilla cigar in Henderson's pocket. These are commonly used to smoke marijuana by unrolling the cigar, emptying out the tobacco, and re-rolling it with marijuana.

His car was secured and left at the scene. Henderson was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia, along with CDS in a Motor Vehicle; Driving While Suspended; Use of a cell phone; and Failure to Exhibit Registration card.  He also had outstanding warrants in West Orange, North Plainfield, Warren, and Green Brook.  He was placed in a cell.

Police then apprehended Gray without incident and charged him with one count of Distribution of Marijuana, and Possession of Marijuana.

As Donald Trump’s inauguration draws near, a number of groups are planning various events and rallies – perhaps most notably, the Women’s March on Washington. I would like to address some two of the major themes.

Let’s make America the Greatest Show on Earth Again.

I was very sad to learn that after 146 years of big-top entertainment the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is folding its tent and leaving town.

This comes a year after the circus, due to mounting pressures from animal rights activists, got rid of the elephants.

It is not really ...
