Two Men Shot in 1st Ward Monday Night

PATERSON, NJ - Two men were wounded in the 1st Ward late Monday night, which was Paterson's fourth shooting in the past six days.

One of the victims told authorities he and a friend were walking near the corner of N. 5th and Jefferson streets at about 9:30 pm when he heard shots being fired from behind him. Police said the victim realized he was wounded and tried to run away from the area, but collapsed on the ground. When police officers began questioning the friend whom he was walking with, they realized he, too, had been wounded, according to authorities.

The shooting happened several blocks from the scene of a fatal drive-by shooting Friday night near the corner of Garfield Avenue and Jefferson Street. Early Friday morning a man was wounded in the 5th Ward, while two men were wounded in the 4th Ward on Wednesday.
