Two Minors Arrested in South Orange on Shoplifting Charges

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Two Newark minors, both 15, were arrested when police responded to a report of shoplifting at 7-11 shortly after 9 p.m. on June 27. The juveniles stole several items from the store before fleeing on foot but were apprehended and arrested shortly after.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Aaron Smelly, 19, of Newark, was arrested when an officer on patrol saw him punch a pedestrian on South Orange Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. on June 29.

In other police news:

  • Dmitry Tyutin, 26, of East Orange, was arrested on June 26 for failing to appear in court for a DWI complaint in South Orange. Tyutin had an outstanding warrant and was apprehended at his home.
     
  • Ronald Jeanfrancois, of South Orange, was arrested during a routine traffic stop on South Orange Avenue at about 10 a.m. on June 30. During the stop, it was determined that Jeanfrancois had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.
     
  • Iyana Mathison, 21, of East Orange, was arrested when police responded to a report of an unknown female on the porch of a Vose Avenue residence shortly after 6 p.m. on July 2. Mathison was found hiding in a bush on the property and was arrested without incident.
