WEST ORANGE, NJ — There were two additional cases of COVID-19 reported in West Orange on Friday, according to Mayor Robert Parisi. No new deaths were reported in the township Friday.

The total intake of cases in West Orange was 1,417. Deaths are included in the "total intake" number and remain "active" until a full investigation is complete. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in West Orange was 179.

Two residents were hospitalized with the coronavirus, and, of them, one was in intensive care. There were 304 current active coronavirus cases in West Orange. The township reports that there have been 1,039 recovered and closed cases.

Essex County reported a total of 18,972 cases of COVID-19 Friday, an increase of 29 overnight. There have been 93,501 negative test results in Essex County. There have been 1,805 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus.

In New Jersey, there were 358 new cases of COVID-19 statewide on Friday for a total of 174,628 since the start of the pandemic, according to the state Department of Health. The seven-day average of new cases in New Jersey is 269, a 13 percent drop from the seven-day average a week earlier.
