SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Union Catholic used a 21-8 run in a 28-point second quarter to pull away from South Plainfield for a 79-63 victory in boys basketball on Monday. Ashton Lofton led all scorers with 25 points. Union Catholic’s Isaiah Stills had 19 points and Devine Eke pumped in another 16 points to lead the Vikings.
The Tigers of South Plainfield came out with a strong showing in the first quarter before the Vikings went on their 21-8 second-quarter run. South Plainfield outscored Union Catholic, 34-33, in the second half, but could not overcome the second-quarter run. Chris Mathis, for the second game in a row, led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points.
