Union Co. Magnet HS Ranked #186 in America, #8 in NJ by U.S. News & World Report


SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- U.S. News & World Report’s National Rankings Best High Schools has ranked Union County Magnet High School (1776 Raritan Rd.) as the #186 high school in the country and #8 within the state of New Jersey.

The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 19,400 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

“We are very proud of the ranking and welcome the recognition,” said Gwendolyn Ryan, who has been the principal of the Magnet High School for the past eight years. “It is a reflection of the hard work of everyone who is part of the school community.”

The magazine reported that the AP® participation rate at Union County Magnet High School is 72 percent. Its student body makeup is 53 percent male and 47 percent female, with a total minority enrollment of 45 percent.

“We are ecstatic that the three of our schools -- Academy for Allied Health Sciences (#236, #12 in NJ), Academy for Information Technology (#621, #28 in NJ), and Union County Magnet High School – are on the list,” said Pete Capodice, superintendent of the Union County Vocational Technical Schools.
