CRANFORD – At the annual Elizabeth’s Promise Awards Dinner, Union County College (UCC) President Dr. Margaret M. McMenamin was named one of this year’s honorees and will have a scholarship established in her honor. Elizabeth Councilman Frank Cuesta, President of Elizabeth’s Promise Awards, Inc., founded the non-profit organization to assist with college-related costs for deserving high school seniors in Elizabeth. Elizabeth’s Promise issues its annual awards thanks to the generosity of donors from throughout Union County.

“We are so proud of Dr. McMenamin for being chosen to receive an Elizabeth’s Promise Award this year,” stated Union County College Board of Trustees Chair Victor M. Richel. “Since Dr. McMenamin’s arrival at Union almost nine years ago, she has been committed to improving the lives of Union County residents by providing an affordable, accessible, and high-quality education for anyone who chooses to enroll at Union to further their education.”

Last year, Elizabeth’s Promise awarded 52 scholarships to new college students ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The organization demonstrates their support by investing in each of the awarded students. This investment tells the student, “you have promise.” It is a powerful message for a student to receive as he/she prepares to start college.
