UNION, NJ – Union seniors had an opportunity Monday morning to participate in an informational program at the Senior Center with a basic overview of cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Battalion Chief Henry Sisbarro and fire fighters Gunther Guerra and Michael D’Allessio presented the session to emphasize to seniors the importance of calling 911, beginning chest compressions, and the use of external defibrillators. Township Committeeman Manuel Figueiredo was also on hand to help in the demonstrations.
“These actions are the basics of resuscitation and are key links in the cardiac chain of survival identified by the American Heart Association,” said Guerra.
Union seniors had the opportunity to ask questions and practice delivering chest compressions on the fire department’s new QCPR feedback manikins.
“Having state of the art equipment on the apparatus, as well as during training, has increased the likelihood of survival if a cardiac arrest occurs,” said D’Allessio.
