PATERSON, NJ - The Professionals for Effective Action Political Committee, the independent political action committee of the Paterson Education Association (PEA), announced its endorsements for the three available Paterson Public Schools board of education seats. After hosting a thorough screening process that took place earlier this month, the five-member committee, comprised of individuals from various positions, schools and departments in the Paterson school district, voted to endorse the following candidates:
- Herman Irving, III
- Kenneth L. Simmons
- Joel Ramirez
All potential candidates were invited to participate, but it was the ones who understood the challenges and risks that Paterson public school employees and students face during COVID-19 and the valuable role a strong union plays in addressing these struggles that made an impact on the committee. Ultimately, the committee chose to endorse those who expressed a desire to support and collaborate with the PEA to continue to keep the city’s schools and students safe during these unprecedented times.
"The PEA is proud to endorse candidates who are committed to working collaboratively with, not against, its members,” declared PEA President John McEntee. “Mr. Irving and Trustees Ramirez and Simmons all have demonstrated both a pro-labor mindset and breadth of knowledge on policies concerning the association. Most importantly, all three pledged to not return to in-person learning until the situation is unequivocally safe for staff and students alike. Simply put, they are the right choice, right now.”
Elections for these open seats will be held on November 3.
