Updates Made to the Essex County Free Concert Series Calendar

Essex County, NJ – Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. invites the public to visit the Essex County Park System and enjoy the Updated 2014 Essex County Free SummerMusic Concert Series. Upcoming events include performances by Three Jersey Tenors, Gordon James and Hot Jazz, and Shadows of the ‘60s.

“Our Free Concert Series offers a diverse lineup of performers who will take center stage in venues throughout our historic Essex County Park System. Pack a blanket, enjoy the cool evening breeze and dance to the sounds of classical, rock and roll, jazz, big band, Latin and more. We have a spectacular line-up that is sure to entertain and impress,” DiVincenzo said.

Three Jersey Tenors

The 2014 Essex County Free SummerMusic Concert Series continues with a performance by Three Jersey Tenors at Essex County Kip’s Castle Park. They will perform as follows:

Gordon James and Hot Jazz

Gordon James is a talented performer, arranger, composer and recording artist who weaves his own tapestry of Jazz, Latin, R&B, Hip Hop, Soul & Pop music. His songs are funky and lyrical, his arrangements are hip and polished, and playing the flugelhorn and muted trumpet are perfect for conveying the passion of his compositions. “A New Kind of Love” is his most recent CD that was released in 2011. He will be joined by vocalist Janet Van Kline in Essex County Vailsburg Park. Gordon James will perform as follows:

Shadows of the ‘60s

Shadows of the ‘60s pays tribute to the tremendous legacy of The Four Tops, The Temptations and the Supremes. In this tribute production show, the group performs musical hits that span several decades. Great care is taken to reproduce the music, note for note and in the original keys and arrangements. Shadows of the ‘60s will take their audience down memory lane as follows:

The SummerMusic Concert Series is being sponsored by Rose Squared Productions, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, Filippo Berio Olive Oil, TD Bank and the Branch Brook Park Alliance. The series is also made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.

Concerts are held at accessible sites. Persons who require special accommodations or assistance are asked to call at least two weeks prior to the concert to alert staff as to their needs. Admission to the concerts is free. For more information, please call the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs at 973‑239-2485.

The Essex County Park System was created in 1895 and is the first county park system established in the United States. The Park System consists of more than 6,000 acres and has 22 parks, five reservations, an environmental center, a zoo, ice skating rink, roller skating rink, three public golf courses, golf driving range, two miniature golf courses, Treetop Adventure Course, three off-leash dog facilities, a castle and the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.
