BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Church of the Little Flower had 52 young children attend Vacation Bible School in June with over 30 middle school and high school students mentoring. This year’s theme was Weird Animals! The kids met some new animal friends, acted out bible stories, worked on crafts, played games, sang songs and learned choreographed dance moves.
We are most proud of the success of Operation Kid-to-Kid, an awareness and fundraising campaign to help provide clean drinking water to our brothers and sisters in India. The students collected enough money to provide 41 children with access to clean water.
But wait, there’s more! We wrapped up the week of fun with a visit from Travis Gale, owner of Eyes of the Wild, and a few of his wild friends. Yes, it is true that Little Flower can proudly state we welcomed a groundhog, a corn snake, and an Amazonian porcupine to our parish. The kids (and all the adults) were mesmerized as Travis introduced each animal and told its story.
The director of religious education and coordinator of this program is Lisa Gervasio.
