Valentines Day Stars Shine at Opera at Florham Cabaret

Treat your special valentine to Opera at Florham's afternoon of romantic music from the masters on February 14, 2010 at 3 p.m., in Hennessy Hall (The Mansion) on Fairleigh Dickinson University's College at Florham, 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, N.J. Tailgate begins at 2 p.m.

Soprano Yunmi Choo, a native of South Korea, is currently a second-year Master's student at Manhattan School of Music (MSM), studying with Neil Rosenshein. She is also a candidate of Master of Art in Music and Music education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She graduated with magma cum laude from The Hartt School, University of Hartford with a major in Voice and minor in Business. Last Spring, Yunmi appeared as Rotrude in Agostino Steffani's Baroque opera, "Tassilone" at MSM. Her current study focuses on the roles including Liu, Mimi, Pamina, Margeritte, and Michaela. While at Hartt School, she performed roles including Adele, Yum-Yum and Fleta. She has pursued summer study at Intermezzo Young Artist Program.

Soprano Alexandria Shammas was a resident artist with Connecticut Opera, and appeared as Gretal in their production of "Hansel and Gretal" and as Countess Ceprano in "Rigoletto." She has studied with the famed soprano Mignon Dunn and has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra and the Manhattan School of Music.

Tenor Brian Ernstes, a recent newcomer to Sussex County from the Midwest, has sung numerous operatic roles with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the Kansas City Civic Opera, the Indianapolis Opera, and the solo tenor roles in the Verdi Requiem and Messiah with the Houston Choral Society. A winner of the New Jersey State Opera Vocal Competition 2002, he will be singing the leading tenor roles in their productions of "Cavaleria Rusticana" and "Pagliacci." His roles in opera, musical comedy operetta, and variety range from "Aida," "La Traviata," "Le Nozze di Figaro," "La Boheme," to "Billy Budd," "Ballad of Baby Doe," "Hello Dolly," and "Ragtime."

A professional company in residence at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Opera at Florham sponsors an opera, an opera vocal competition and cabarets each season. Cabaret style reserved seating is available with groups of eight, tailgate menus are encouraged and light refreshments are available. Admission is $35 for adults and $10 for students under 22.
