SPARTA, NJ-On Saturday, January 25, 2014 members of Venture Crew 276 attended the American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid training courses. Scouts, Advisors, parents and siblings all attended the courses taught by professional instructor, Sioban Opperman.
Whether getting recertified, or learning the skills for the first time, Sioban did a fantastic job teaching in a way everyone could understand and remember. The majority of the crew attended the courses, and everyone who attended passed the tests and now holds a current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid. The CPR/AED and First Aid skills taught by Sioban are very important in the world, and the world of scouting.
By completing the courses, the crew members fulfilled requirements for the following awards: Religious Life Bronze Award, Outdoor Bronze Award, Silver Award, and Ranger Award, and are better prepared to deal with medical emergencies. Taking this course was a prerequisite for the Mountaineering elective trip that the crew was planning at the Rockville Climbing Center.
Being prepared and medically aware of our environment also ties us into our charter organization, Lakeland Emergency Squad. Their mentors respond to emergencies 24/7. The scouts are learning to do likewise.
