VERONA. NJ - Junior Woman’s Club of Verona is celebrating the 6th anniversary of their annual town-wide food drive, Verona Fights Hunger Week. All donations from the super-sized food drive benefit The Human Needs Food Pantry the Food Pantry at the Church of the Holy Spirit. The drive will begin on Sunday, October 20 with Shop and Drops from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Kings and Walgreens in Verona and conclude on Saturday, October 26 at 9:00 a.m. with a food collection celebration on the steps of the Verona Town Hall.  Since 2013, more than 6,500 bags of non-perishable items and $14,000 in monetary donations have been collected for local food pantries

For a more hands-on experience, residents can fill a bag with non-perishable food donations and bring it to one of the drop off locations:

​Residents can also participate in the Shop & Drops taking place during the week:

  • 10/20/18 – 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Kick off Shop & Drops at Kings and Walgreens
  • 10/22 & 10/25: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Shop & Drops at Walgreens
  • 10/21 - 10/25: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Shop & Drops at Kings

In addition to collecting donations in town all week, there are several local restaurants participating in the Dine Out to Fight Hunger event.  A portion of orders will go to helping those in need when customers mention Verona Fights Hunger Week when ordering.  The Dine Out to Fight Hunger Restaurants are:

  • 10/22   Blue Hippo (lunch), The Guac Spot (dinner)
  • 10/23   Ariane Kitchen & Bar (dinner)
  • 10/24   Lakeside Deli (Fundraiser Thursday take out meal)
