SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The two local veterans organization, American Legion Post 209 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) 10122, will conduct ceremonies on Sunday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
The services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the laying of wreaths at the Veterans Monument at Park Avenue and Front Street in Scotch Plains. At 12:00 Noon, there will be a presentation of wreaths at the Fanwood Memorial Library (5 Forest Road).
Members of the community are invited to attend these programs to recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by all former members of the armed forces of the United States.
This Veterans Day, November 11, is the 100th anniversary of the armistice agreement that ended World War I on November 11, 1918. The World War I Centennial Commission's encourages citizens and organizations across the nation to toll bells in their communities 21 times at 11:00 am on Sunday, Nov. 11.
The Bells of Peace program is designed to honor Americans who served 100 years ago during World War I, especially the 116,516 who died. To learn more about this effort, click here.
