Victim Critical After Morning Shooting Near Al Safa Restaurant

PATERSON, NJ - A 21-year-old city man was in critical condition Saturday morning after being shot several times in the upper torso outside Al Safa Restaurant at 960 Main St. at around 5 a.m.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray, "the victim had just exited the Al Safa Restaurant on Main Street, and had just entered his vehicle when, a single suspect, described as a black male dressed in black, walked up to the driver’s side of the vehicle and opened fire, striking the victim several times. After being shot, the victim attempted to drive to the hospital, but was unable to complete the drive, pulling over on Getty Avenue. At that time, a friend who was following drove the victim the short distance" to St. Joseph’s Medical Center.

Ballistics evidence has been recovered from the scene, and detectives were conducting numerous interviews Saturday morning.The area also was being canvassed for surveillance footage in an effort to ascertain additional information regarding the incident.
