SOMERVILLE, NJ – Week 2 of the volunteer "Campaign to Clean the Streets" is scheduled for Sunday, July 12 beginning at 11 a.m., weather permitting.

The volunteer crew will meet near the Motor Vehicle Commission office on Roosevelt Place. The area to be swept clean is bordered by Fieldstone Drive, Riviera Drive, North and South Cadillac Drives, and Schoolhouse Lane.

The group will focus on litter, grass and weeds growing in curbs and sidewalks, and other initiatives to help make the neighborhood cleaner.

Volunteers are welcome and those not bringing their own supplies will be provided gloves, garbage bags, brooms, and weed whackers.

The idea of the volunteer initiative is based on "Build the Block" run by Just Another Day and Marques Jackson. The effort is led by Jason Kraska and Hank Werner, announced candidates for Somerville Borough Council. Jackson and Kraska were classmates at Somerville High School.

Each week, Kraska, Werner, and the band of volunteers is cleaning a different neighborhood
