BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Voters almost unanimously approved a request to purchase a new fire engine and a new ambulance for the Bridgewater Township Fire District No. 2 in a special election Aug. 13.
According to Chris Ireland, a commissioner with the district, a total of 34 voters attended the special meeting for the vote, and the fire truck and the ambulance were approved by 31 and 33 yes votes, respectively.
The voters approved funds not to exceed $700,000 for the fire truck, Ireland said, and funds not to exceed $200,000 for the ambulance. At this point, he said, the district will begin working on getting prices from individual vendors, so specific numbers are not yet available.
Both the fire truck and the ambulance are replacing old ones the district has been using.
"We are thrilled that the residents overwhelmingly realized the need for an upgrade in apparatus for their local responders," he said.
