Walsh, Vernazza Set Chatham Records at Morris County Track Championships

Dominic Vernazza sets Chatham record in 1000-meter run Credits: TAP Chatham

MADISON, NJ - John Walsh and Dominic Vernazza each established a school record in helping Chatham earn sixth place at the Morris County indoor track championships held Thursday at Drew University.

Walsh helped Chatham collected 33 team points by finishing second in the 55-meter hurdles, breaking  his own school mark with a time of 7.94, and then winning the high jump with a personal-best height of 6'4".

Vernazza broke the record of Corey Black in placing second in the 1000-meter run in 2:38.52. Two other Chatham runners posted personal records in placing for the Cougars. Will Mitchell finished third in the 3200-meter run in a personal-best time of 9:53.79 while Andrew Vena earned sixth place in the 600-meter run in a personal-best time of 1:27.31.

Other notable performances for Chatham included: Kevin Gesell, 1:27.92 in 600 (8th); Parth Shah, 2:45.77 in 1000 (9th); Grant Hauck, 2:46.63 in 1000 (10th); 4 X 400 Relay team, Andrew Vena, Parth Shah, Dom Vernazza, Kevin Gesell), 7th in year's best time of 3:38.02.
