Warren Green Team Offers Tips To The Community
WARREN, NJ - Now that the warm weather is here, there are a number of choices we can make that have positive impacts to our environment. If you wonder what you can do to help the environment but don’t know where to start, a great place to begin are the Green Team pages on the Warren Township website at www.warrenn.org.
The Warren Green Team has put together a wealth of information to assist township residents and businesses with topics on sustainable matters. These include: a brochure on “Grass Cut It & Leave It”, brochures on Car Idling, Pesticide Reduction, Radon Control, Recycling, Donations, Community Access and Re-sell Lists which were carefully researched and tailored with the best places to bring unneeded items to the Warren area.
In keeping with the Warren Township’s Green Team mission, “To be a resource for the residents and businesses of Warren in communicating sustainable practices and creating programs that enhance the quality of life through conservation and environmental management,” new anti-idling signs have been installed on municipal grounds. Air pollution generated by vehicles emits particles that get into our lungs, creating health issues; this can cause asthma and contribute to cancer and heart disease.
In addition, since pesticides are not used on Warren playgrounds and ball fields, “Pesticide Free Zone” signs were installed to designate these areas. Reducing pesticide use helps keep our water cleaner by diminishing the amount of chemicals that flow into the water systems from storm water runoff. It also makes these areas a safer place to play. The brochure on “Pesticide Reduction” offers useful information for residents to reduce the use of pesticides.
Upcoming issues: The Warren Green Team will focus on water quality and collaborate with other local groups towards improving habitats for bees and butterflies. All Warren residents are welcome and encouraged to get involved with the Warren Green Team. The next Green Team meeting is July 8.
