WARREN, NJ - The Watchung Hills Board of Education approved the addition of nine new courses to the be included in the 2019-20 program of studies and a name change of two existing courses at its last meeting.
Music Tech will now be called Music Production and the Acting Workshop will become Theatre Arts 2.
Course offerings are examined and evaluated each year. Music Tech was new this year and was wildly popular. All courses need sufficient enrollment and curriculum is written over the summer, Superintendent Elizabeth Jewett said.
The Board of Education approved the following new courses for inclusion in the 2019/2020 Program of Studies:
Senior Survey (Guidance)
Sports in Literature (English)
Media Literacy (English)
Civics (Social Studies)
Fine Arts 3H (Arts)
Cyber Security (Business)
Marketing H (Business)
Concepts in Business & Tech (Business)
Spanish Immersion and Culture 1 (WL)
Course Title Change
Music Production (formerly Music Tech) (Arts)
Theatre Arts 2 (formerly Acting Workshop) (Arts)
Students will be able to request electives through Parent Access. Parents and students should log into the student's account and make choices for elective requests. Teacher recommendations for next year academic courses will be available in the same Scheduling tab where electives are chosen.
A notice will go out from the guidance department some time near the end of February. Students are encouraged to choose and prioritize ten (10) elective requests to accommodate alternatives in the scheduling process. Course request information and the Program of Studies can be found on the Scheduling tab in Parent Access.
