Wayne Man Shot on Paterson Street Friday Afternoon

PATERSON, NJ - Police are investigating the shooting of a Wayne man in broad daylight Friday afternoon in the city.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray, the 27-year-old victim was shot at around 1:30 p.m. on Grand Street near the corner of Jersey Street. 

"The victim, a Wayne resident, was walking west on Grand Street near Jersey Street with a male acquaintance, when the male produced a handgun and fired several times at the victim, striking him in the leg and abdomen," Murray said.

The victim, who was in stable condition at St. Joseph's Medical Center early Saturday morning, had the wherewithal to flag down a nearby Passic County Sheriff's officer after being shot.

"It is unclear at this time what may have prompted the actual shooting incident," Murray said, "and detectives with the Ceasefire Unit are currently conducting interviews and canvassing the area for additional information."
