New Jersey's Open Public Meeting Act, also known as “The Sunshine Law,” was passed to ensure that decision-making government bodies in the state conduct their businesses in public.

Governing bodies must announce their meetings at least 48 hours in advance, giving date, time and location of the meeting.

Currently, the law forces government bodies to make announcements in hardcopy newspapers, but readership of newspapers continues to drop while digital news sites grow in popularity, so these two boards have named both an official newspaper as well as an official online news source.
