West Caldwell Police Cpl. Bill Styskal Heads Investigation Leading to Hit and Run Arrest

January 17, 2014 at 12:27 AM

WEST CALDWELL, NJ - The West Caldwell Police Department announced that Corporal William Styskal had completed an almost two week investigation after Wednesday's arrest of Bloomfield resident Joseph Deleva, 49, who was wanted for a hit and run accident earlier this month.

At about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, West Caldwell police responded to the parking lot of Cleveland's Bar and Grill, located at 555 Passaic Avenue, after a call came in on the hit and run.

Styskal determined after
interviews with witnesses and those involved, that Deleva had become involved in an argument with five area residents, men and women in their early 20s. As they attempted to leave Deleva, the group got into a 2012 Jeep together. Reportedly, Deleva got into his 2003 GMC Yukon and purposefully drove his car directly into their Jeep, with so much intensity that the jeep was turned around. Witnesses said the Yukon then backed up and sped out of the parking lot. Those in the Jeep managed to get a partial license plate of the Yukon.

Arrest and Charges
On Wednesday, Deleva turned himself into the West Caldwell Police Station where he was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault - five counts

  • Criminal Mischief - five counts

  • Possession of a Weapon

  • Possession of a Weapon for an unlawful purpose

Deleva is being held in the Essex County Jail in Newark on $50,000 bail for each charge

Beckerman’s Theory of Everything

This all-encompassing theory would tie together general relativity (large scale and high mass galaxies, stars, etc), quantum theory (quantum mechanics, quarks, atoms, subatomic particles), and Newtonian physics (gravity on small bodies, gas laws, electromagnetism) to ...

Getting a Handle on Thanksgiving

This year, on our National Day of Thanks, I would like to express my gratitude for having hands.

We typically don’t thank our body parts because they seldom leave us.  Most of us have not experienced unfortunate accidents or suffered the horrible consequences of war; tragic events  which might cause us to lose a limb.

Most of us take our fingers and hands and elbows ...
