May 24, 2014 at 11:38 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - What do you get when you cross the Downtown West Orange Alliance Annual Street Fair, the West Orange Public Relations Township Picnic, the West Orange Chamber of Commerce and Thomas Edison National Historical Park? You get the biggest Street Fair that West Orange has ever seen, and it's being held on Saturday, June 7, from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm. Admission is free and everyone is invited.

For the first time, the event will feature a Beer Garden, along with 75 vendors selling everything from food to art. Pleasant Valley Productions will be part of the day's entertainment, which will also include bands, solo acts, cabaret and Broadway performances, comedians, a dance troupe, jazz musicians, and more.

There will be bounce houses, a splash tank near the Community House and a "Touch a Truck" exhibition for children. The exhibition will feature police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and large vehicles that children can explore. Drivers and operators will be there to explain how the vehicles work.

This year the Downtown West Orange Alliance is partnering with the Thomas Edison National Historical Park (NHP) to celebrate "Edison Day," an annual event that this year will also commemmorate New Jersey's 350th anniversary. The Street Fair will be held in and around TENHP located at 211 Main Street. In addition to the Edison Factory, tours will also be held at Glenmont, Thomas Edison's historic home in Llewelyn Park.

The park was chosen by the State of New Jersey to highlight the theme of "Innovation" for the state's NJ350 Anniversary. TENHP has planned several free events at the museum during the Street Fair: special Thomas Edison memorabilia that is brought out only once a year on Edison Day will be displayed and there will be hands-on chemistry activities, a Junior Ranger tent,  animated highlights from the Black Maria, where movies were first invented, a Dream Rocket Children’s Art Project, and an Electric Vehicle Car Show.

The New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum will be on site. The Mobile Museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience images, artifacts, films and interactive elements to learn about New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees. West Orange township historian Joe Fagan will display unique West Orange memorabilia.

The Annual West Orange Town Picnic, usually held in September, will also be incorporated into the street fair. Township agencies will be on-hand to answer questions about the town to residents, visitors and
prospective homeowners. As always, there will be special giveaways and a raffle contest for free overnight stays at local hotels and free dinner gift certificates to area restaurants.

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs and parking will be provided at 80 Main Street. Shuttles will run from that lot to Lakeside Avenue and Main Street.

“This is the biggest event of the year in West Orange and we’ve brought every major township organization together to provide the most exciting and entertaining day," said Megan Brill, Executive Director of the Downtown West Orange Alliance who is organizing the event.

For more information about the street fair, contact Megan Brill at 973-325-4109 or visit the township website at www.westorange.org.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
