WEST ORANGE, NJ -  Jennie Traill Schaeffer, artist and owner of TraillWorks Studio in West Orange, is settling nicely into her home in the Gregory section of town.

Jennie moved to West Orange in 2013 from Newton, NJ, with her husband of ten years, Lee Goldberg, her two sons, Joel (6), and Auggie (1), and their dog Ringo. While there, Schaeffer owned an art studio and gallery called TraillWorks, for five years. She taught private and small group lessons, exhibited the work of regional artists, hosted workshops, and even found time to create work of her own, which will be featured in a Syracuse University Painting Alumni Retrospective, on exhibit now through Jan. 3, 2015, at 914Works, located in the University's College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Schaeffer is a visual artist who is drawn to paint subjects in the domestic realm and how they relate to her own life. She says that she "likes to play with paint," and create energetic interpretations of things like kitchen appliances, aprons, landscapes, wedding cakes and portraits.

After settling into their West Orange home, the artist transformed the third floor of her home into a studio and reopened TraillWorks. She has been teaching since late 2013 and says she "is looking to expand with adult sessions to help 'jumpstart' individual's creativity, promote my lessons, making work, and exhibiting again."

TAP into West Orange asked Schaeffer how her family was adjusting to life in town. "We love West Orange!" Schaffer said.

"The sense of community, much driven by very friendly supportive neighbors has been very refreshing. We have quickly become a part of the community, making wonderful friends. We are also taking advantage of the many cultural, dining, recreational and special activities afforded by West Orange, neighboring towns and NYC. Our son is very happy at Gregory, making many friends and learning to appreciate new things."

In addition to the exhibition at SU, Schaeffer was recently accepted to sell her work in Studio B’s Bizarre Bazaar in Maplewood on December 7.
