WEST ORANGE,  NJ -- After taking its lumps in the ultra-competitive American Division of the Suburban Essex Conference this past winter, the West Orange boys basketball team will be moved to the Liberty Division for the 2019-2020 season.

The Mountaineers finished the season 6-15 competing against a steady diet of elite teams such as Montclair Immaculate, Seton Hall Prep, Newark East Side and Newark West Side in the American Division.

West Orange's new co-tenants in the Liberty Division will be Irvington, University, Barringer, Newark Tech, Bloomfield and Newark Central--hardly a forgiving slate, but nonetheless still a slight reprieve from the unyielding demands of an American Division schedule.

The West Orange girls basketball team, which won its first Essex County Tournament championship last month, will remain in the American Division next season, accompanied by University, Newark Tech, Montclair Immaculate, East Orange, Arts and Bloomfield.
