West Orange Environmental Commission to Hold Earth Hour Support Event March 25.

WEST ORANGE, NJ - A public event supporting Earth Hour will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park, 211 Main St. in West Orange from 5 to 6 p.m. The announcement came from Mike Brick, chairman of the West Orange Environmental Commission.

Expected to speak at the event will be township officials, environmental agency representative from Rugers University, the Sierra Club, the EPA, and NJ Clean Energy.  Also expected to speak will be West Orange School District Science teachers and students, all of whom will speak in support of Earth Hour and its message to preserve Planet Earth. 

Town Council President and Environmental Commission Council Liasion Susan McCartney has enrolled the Township of West Orange as an Earth Hour sponsor for the fourth year in a row.

On Saturday, March 29 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., lights will go out all over the world in as billions of people acknowledge the need to conserve and preserve the earth and its resources. Go to www.earthour.org to learn more about Earth Hour.

The entire West Orange community, including families with children, are invited to attend the free event. There will be a raffle for an original reproduction of the GE Edison Mazda 1910 Squirrelcage bulb, which is also represented in the new logo of the Downtown West Orange Alliance. The squirrelcage bulb was the first tungsten filament bulb and an innovative improvement over the earlier carbon filament bulbs in lumen output and longevity.
