WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Thursday, April 17, the Edison Middle School Girl Scout Cadettes delivered several tasty boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the Holy Trinity-West Orange Food Pantry for distribution to food pantry members.
The Cadettes were taken on a tour of the food pantry, including the different areas for donated and purchased food as well as state (SFPP) and federal (TEFAP) food.
In addition, the girls saw the cabinets stocked with food items that members get to select each month. Members may come once a month and receive various types of canned and frozen items, along with whatever special or extra items the pantry has.
The girls, along with Troop Leader Michele, discussed hunger and food insecurity in West Orange with Food Pantry Administrator Cynthia Cumming. In the West Orange school district alone, 1400 or more children do not know if they will receive three meals a day.
"We thought the members would like a treat," said Troop leader Michele. "Who doesn't like Girl Scout cookies?" said Cumming.
By the end of Friday's food pantry, all the cookies had been distributed to happy pantry members.
