West Orange Girls Basketball Beats Irvington in Home Opener, 50-24

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange varsity girls basketball team faced off against the Blue Knights of Irvington, winning, 50-24, in the WOHS home opener. Sidney Gordon was the game's top scorer with 17 points.

West Orange led, 22-9, at the half.

The third period echoed the second with both teams going for the ball very aggressively. West Orange made a three-pointer early in the quarter. Irvington’s Tyzhone Lassiter made both of her foul shots, followed by West Orange’s Kaylx Lewis hitting a two-point basket. With 19 points scored in the third period, West Orange led heading into the fourth period, 41-14.

Gordon had three 3-pointers, three assists, four steals. Emily DeBarbarbieri scored seven points, while Samaya Mitchell scored six, and Jewell Burnett, Amoyiah Gilliam, Jahnaya Howard and Gerardine Jean-Baptiste scored four points each.

West Orange is 3-3 on the season. 

The Mountaineers will face off against Shabazz on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at West Orange and against Weequahic at 4 p.m. Jan. 14 at Weequahic high school.
