WEST ORANGE, NJ - It could not have been a better night for the West Orange Girls Soccer Team to pull off a victory. On an evening honoring the Mountaineer seniors, who, according to coach Lou Mignone, have been outstanding leaders all season, the girls prevailed over St. Dominic's Academy of Jersey City, 2-1.
Appropriately, senior captain Dana Catanzarite led the Mountaineers with a two goal performance, with assists coming from sophomore Kristina Jaeger and freshman Annabella Schuler. Sophomore keeper Heidi Paulson had five saves.
The Mountaineer's first goal came just seconds after a St. Dominic goal on a misplay by the keeper.
“We were quicker and more precise with our passes,” said coach Mignone. “We created a lot more goal scoring opportunities.”
As seniors were recognized post-game, Mignone praised the group and described the impact this year's seniors had on the program. “The team had absolutely zero problems in terms of people getting along. It was in great part due to the senior leadership.”
