West Orange Girls Softball Takes Win Over Montclair, 6-2

WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Monday, May 6, the WOHS Varsity Softball team recognized their seniors and won 6-2 vs. Montclair in their last home game of the season.

Prior to the start of the game, the West Orange coaches called each Senior to the field, accompanied by their parents. Seniors recognized were Alex Buchanan, Andrea Franco, Jaime DeAngelis, Elizabeth DeJong, Kaitlin Machuca, Kristen Bolen, and Jahnaya Howard.

Montclair's Erica Robles and Olivia Silverstein scored two runs off of a single with an error on center in the top of the first, and the Mountaineers quickly evened the score when they came up to bat. Those runs would be the only runs Montclair would score.

Wth three outs in the third, Montclair was no match for West Orange, who batted and gained 3 runs. Kristen Bolen pulled in her second run at the bottom of the fifth. Kaitlin Machuca also had two runs for the Mountainners.

The Mountaineers won 6-2 with additional runs by Jahnaya Howard, Ogo Igwe, and a standout two-hitter, with one walk and eight strikeouts by pitcher  Jaime DeAngelis. 

West Orange Head Coach Joel Troast  was pleased, noting  the game was a big conference win for them.

"it’s nice to have a win on Senior Night" Troast said. "I'm excited moving forward and hope this win will boost the team forward as we head into the playoffs".
