WEST ORANGE, NJ - The East Orange Jaguars boys basketball team edged out the West Orange Mountaineers, 70-61, in a tightly contested game at West Orange High School on Tuesday.
East Orange held the lead throughout most of the game, though crisp passing and improved ball movement on the part of West Orange kept the contest close. East Orange's Marquise Kindel led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
The halftime score was 26-24 in favor of East Orange. Despite a full court press by West Orange at the start of the third period, East Orange pulled ahead through a series of successful shots and were ahead by 10 heading into the end of the third. The Mountaineers rallied to close the gap to four at the end of the period, 47-43.
The last three minutes of the fourth period marked the end of the Mountaineers hopes for a victory as several missed fouls shots gave the advantage to East Orange. The Jaguars' victory was ultimately attributed to their strong foul shooting, making 24-of-27 free throws throughout the game, while West Orange only managed to hit 17 out of 29.
Jordan Taylor scored 18 points and Denzel Banks 16 points for East Orange. West Orange's Andy Fleurantin scored 19 points, while Isaiah Scott added 16.
