WEST ORANGE, NJ - Another West Orange tradition continues on Friday at the varsity football game against Nutley at Suriano Stadium when the Mountaineers host their annual Homecoming Game.
Festivities are planned for the always-popular event which features the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen during halftime.
A pre-game family tailgate will begin at 5:30 p.m. The community is invited to join the Mountaineers for good music and food.
Annual senior recognition will take place at 6:50, honoring all senior band members and student athletes.
Kickoff begins at 7 p.m., followed by the crowning of the 2014 Homecoming King and Queen and congratulations to the Homecoming Court at halftime. The faculty submits their choices for king and queen based on the following criteria:
Exhibits outstanding character traits and is an upstanding school citizen
Participates in school life with a sense of school pride and unification
Demonstrates scholarship, leadership and fellowship at West Orange High School
Respected by both the senior class and teaching staff
Three candidates for King and three candidates for Queen are selected, and their names are placed on a ballot to be voted on by all seniors at the high school. It remains a surprise until the names are announced during halftime.
