West Orange High School Senior Fun Day Held on Sept. 30

October 2, 2013 at 12:04 AM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Sept. 30, the Class of 2014 gathered on the baseball field for the first in a series of pre-graduation celebrations. This year’s seniors participated in Senior Fun Day, which replaced the offsite Senior Picnic and Senior Breakfast. Senior Fun Day increased decreased senior dues by $40.

The festivities began with seniors taking their annual class picture in the shape of “14” for the class yearbook. Students then enjoyed playing carnival games, completing obstacles on the inflatables, and dancing to the DJ. Face painters helped to boost school spirit by painting  “2014” and “WOHS” painted on students' faces, along with other designs.

Teachers Ms. Gonzalez, Ms. Moss, Mr. Champagne, and Mr. Gargiulo were targets in the dunk tank, along with Vice-Principal Leslie Chung and Principal Hayden Moore. Mr. Moore challenged the students to hit the target and could be heard yelling “Hurry up, it’s cold.” Students (and staff) did not disappoint him.

Field activities took place the second half of the afternoon, featuring tug of war, potato sack races, and three legged races. First place prizewinners took home gift cards to the Short Hills Mall and the Mountaineer Shop.

“Senior Fun Day was an overall enjoyable experience. The potato sack competition was very fun. It was definitely a lot better than three periods of class work,” said senior Margot Fitzgerald.

I would like to address some two of the major themes.

Step Right Up

Let’s make America the Greatest Show on Earth Again.

I was very sad to learn that after 146 years of big-top entertainment the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is folding its tent and leaving town.

This comes a year after the circus, due to mounting pressures from animal rights activists, got rid of the elephants.

It is not really ...
