West Orange Hilltoppers' Heat Teams Take Championships

October 3, 2013 at 3:51 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ -  The West Orange-based AAU basketball organization, Hilltopper’s Heat, traveled to Berlin, N.J. this past weekend for the Back to School Basketball Tournament.  The third, fourth and sixth-grade squads' "A" teams participated  in the tournament with other teams from around the area.

Each bracket consisted of three teams. All three teams played and won their first set of games.  The third grade team returned to the Berlin Community Center to play a delayed second game, putting the fourth-grade team at a disadvantage. Two of the fourth-grade team's starters also play on the third-grade team.

After careful consideration the HIlltopper coaches moved the third-grade players to the fourth grade game to boost the fourth grade score.  At the end of the day, all three teams secured their spots in the finals.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
