West Orange Needs to Hire More Police

In the wake of recent shootings and murders, the township must shift resources to aggressively fight crime. Since downsizing our Police Department from 122 police officers to our current of 86, the department has been dangerously overstretched and unable to meet its core mission of fighting crime.

A 5 year plan of hiring 20-30 police officers and shifting of current funds for these hires is a necessary step in making West Orange a safer township again. Keeping our staffing levels at currently levels is a recipe for more crime, and reduced home values. It is my professional opinion that a 5 year plan to properly staff our police department and implement an aggressive plan to stem the tide of violence will make us a stronger town with higher home values.

Hiring more police officers does not mean higher taxes if we properly use existing revenues already in place, but it does mean spending our precious taxpayer dollars more wisely and putting greater emphasis on public safety. We must regain control of our public safety with an aggressive plan to stem this wave of violence engulfing our town.
