West Orange Police Arrest Suspect on Weapons Charges

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Mayor Robert Parisi announced that  the West Orange Police Department arrested and charged a West Orange resident with unlawful possession of a weapon. The arrest stemmed from an incident on Sept. 9.

Judens Obed Michel was arrested late Monday night after he was observed by police to be acting suspiciously as he walked along Valley Road. The suspect, according to Public Information Officer Jessica Glicker,  also "closely matched the description of an armed suspect from a previously reported incident involving a handgun".

As police approached the suspect to question him, he took off running and three police officers gave chase.  He was captured on Quinby Place. During pursuit, officers also observed Michel discarding a handgun, which was susequently recovered by the police.

Michel was was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest, along with other charges.  At this time he has not been connected with any other ongoing investigations.

“Our officers are out there all day everyday risking their lives to protect our community.They make me extremely proud. I hope they make all the citizens of West Orange proud, because they're willing to go into harm's way to keep our town safe,” West Orange Chief of Police James Abbott said.
