WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange Police Athletic League (WoPal) Opening Day is set for Saturday, April 26 at the Vincent Albanese Sports Complex at 28 Prospect Place, beginning at 9:45 am.
During each year's opening day, PAL recognizes players, coaches, and community members that have helped to shape the PAL legacy in West Orange. This year, James Reitberger will be honored. James will throw out the first pitch of the game.
Reitberger, a West Orange resident, played football and baseball with PAL n the 1990s and went on to coach with his father for several years. He is currently battling leukemia, and it is the desire of the PAL organization to recognize Reitberger not only for his contributions to PAL but as a part of the PAL family and the West Orange community.
Following his recognition at Opening Day, there will be a fund raiser for James at the Orange Elks, 475 Main Street in Orange, to help offset the cost of medical expenses. For more information on the fund raiser, contact the Orange Elks at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Monday, April 28 beginning at 6:30 pm the PAL senior division will play their first game on a 50/70 baseball field at Degnan Park. Little League traditionally plays on a 46/60 field (46 feet for pitching and 60 feet for base paths). It is the hope of the WoPal to prepare kids for a larger diamond so they can be competitive during Travel Baseball, Middle School Baseball and eventually High School Baseball.
