WEST ORANGE, NJ - Detective Keith Boreyeskne and Officer Jerome Pleasants of the West Orange Police Deparment will be recognized for their heroism at the 200 Club of Essex County Annual Valor Awards Luncheon on May 7 at Mayfair Farms, 481 Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange, beginning at 11:30 am.
On March 2, 2013, Boreyeskne and Pleasants rescued an elderly female victim and her unconscious developmentally disabled son from their home at 1480 Pleasant Valley Way. Heavy smoke was coming from the home and both officers, without benefit of protective gear or a charged hose line, twice entered the the home to remove the two inhabitants.
“Officer Pleasants and Detective Boryeskne are deserving of this prestigious award for their exceptional heroism and commitment to their profession,” West Orange Police Chief James P. Abbott said.
According to the Essex County Sheriff's Office, in addition to the West Orange officers, fifty-four local law enforcement officers, including the 40 members of the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force. and thirteen local firefighters will be recognized for bravery, dedication to duty, courageous vigilance and selflessness.
Belleville, Bloomfield, East Orange, Irvington, Newark, North Caldwell, Roseland, West Caldwell, West Orange, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the Essex County Sheriff's Office, and the New Jersey State Police will be represented.
New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney will be the guest speaker. A Special Service Commendation Award will be given to Newark Firefighter Frank Bellina, and a Posthumous Presentation of the John P. McLaughlin Award will honor former Newark Police Lt. Louis Dell'Ermo.
The 200 Club of Essex County has raised nearly $2 million to support the spouses of fallen officers and to fund scholarships for their children through membership dues and the annual luncheon since its inception in 1966.
