West Orange Public Schools Begin Modified Spring Break

April 13, 2014 at 2:52 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Although the harsh winter of 2013 is finally giving way to spring, its effects are still being felt in the West Orange Public School district, where students are losing two days of their Spring Break to make up for extra snow days.

Students will be off on Monday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 15. They will then return to school on Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17. Schools will close again on Friday, April 18, and students will return to school on Monday, April 21.

For families that have already made made travel or vacation plans during the week, the students will have two absences on their record but will not be penalized in any way. Teachers who have made travel or vacation plans will be replaced by a substitute teacher. Parents can check with their child's school to see if their teacher will be away and what they have to do to arrange the absences with the school.

The high number of snow days required a day to be taken from the Winter Recess in February (a half day was added) and two more from Spring Break. This will prevent the school district from having to add additional days at the end of the school year.

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
