West Orange Schools Celebrate Thanksgiving

November 26, 2013 at 8:39 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Students across the West Orange School district have been learning about the first Thanksgiving and celebrating their own in costumed events featuring delicious traditional and multicultural foods.

One such event was held in Ms. Phillips' second-grade Gregory Elementary School classroom, where roast chicken, stuffing, string beans, corn, carrots, potatoes, and melon balls were served, along with a slice of "Humble Pie."

Parent Heather Bock showed students how to create a Humble Pie with a paper plate, dividing the plate into eight sections where they wrote the things they were most thankful for.

They also played Roll a Turkey, rolling dice in groups to see who built a turkey first.

Principal Michelle Thompson had to cancel the annual Turkey Trot event due to inclement weather.
