WEST ORANGE, NJ - Due to the impending snowstorm, West Orange Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 5. Accumulations of up to ten inches are expected between midnight and mid-afternoon, with the potential for treacherous roads and icy conditions. The message was sent via School Messenger and is broadcast on local channels 36/45.
All school related activities will also be canceled for Wednesday.
Mayor Robert Parisi issued a town-wide phone message to residents regarding the storm:
Due to tonight's impending snow storm and the significant amount of snow already on the ground, drivers are urged to stay off the roads throughout the storm to keep them clear for emergency vehicles and to allow crews to plow the streets. The cold temperatures have created dangerous driving conditions and we are asking for patience as we get through this rough winter weather together.
If you park on an alternate side parking street, do not move your car to the Thursday thru Sunday side. Leave the car on the Monday thru Wednesday side until further notice. After the storm is over, you will be notified to move your car.
As of now, garbage and recycling is still scheduled for morning pick-up. Morning conditions may change that and I ask that you use discretion in placing garbage or recycling at curbside.
In the event that tomorrow morning's jitney service is cancelled, riders will be notified by 6AM on the Facebook group page and via text alert.
Please take care when shoveling and please do not shovel snow into the street to allow snow removal vehicles to access the roads as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Residents who may experience power outages should call PSE&G at 800-436-7734.
In case of an emergency, dial 911. For non-emergent matters the police department can be reached at 973-325-4000.
