West Orange Soccer Coach to Receive Award at New Jersey Youth Soccer Awards Dinner

December 29, 2012 at 1:00 AM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange Soccer Coach Lou Mignone will receive The Bob McNulty Coach of the Year Award at the New Jersey Youth Soccer 25th Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Pines Manor in Edison, New Jersey. This is an incredible honor for Mignone, who is the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach at West Orange High School, and Director of Coaching for the Mountaintop West Orange United FC.

The recipient of the Bob McNulty Award represents the ideals and values of coaching as outlined by US Soccer. The award is named in honor of Bob McNulty, a former national staff coach, who instructed the national coaching school “C” courses for many years. Recipients such as Mignone, will best represent coaching and exemplify the importance of the role it plays in the development of young people. McNulty was appointed in 1974 to the national coaching staff as one of the “charter appointees”  by USSF Director of Coaching, Walt Chyzowich. He served as the lead instructor for the National “C” License Course. Bob eventually served as a mentor to almost every instructor added to the National Coaching Staff.

McNulty was a coach, educator and mentor who was able to maintain the integrity and standard of the "C" course while putting candidates at ease. Students were treated as colleagues, and mentored as coaches.  Recipients of the Bob McNulty Award are "C" candidates who best represent the spirit and good will of McNulty and his coaching ability.
According to the New Jersey Youth Soccer Handbook, there are approximately 170,000 registered Soccer players and 30,000 registered coaches in 400 soccer clubs across the state of New Jersey.  Although New Jersey is the 3rd smallest state in physical size, it is the 3rd largest state in the number of registered players participating in youth soccer.

Mignone spoke passionately about soccer and the need for repairs at the West Orange High School Lincoln Field, where much of the soccer in town is rehearsed and played, at the last Town Council meeting.  In June, Mignone received the "Volunteer of the Year" Award at the annual Community House dinner.

Mignone has also worked as a police officer and Detective with the West Orange Police Department for the past 22 years.  On December 17, Mignone and another officer helped to prevent a suicide in West Orange.

Mignone is an adjunct Professor at Union County College.

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
