West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade Proposal: She Says Yes

March 16, 2014 at 10:25 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - As thousands of spectators enjoyed the West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, there was one woman who was about to get the surprise of her life.

West Orange firefighter Nick Gillo wanted to pop the question to his girlfriend, Nicole Giannopoulos. With the help of the WOFD, it was planned to have Gillo step off the line as the West Orange Fire Department marched along Main Street. For those not familiar with the traditions and customs of the parade, they are similar to that of a trip down the Jersey Shore -- just as families return to the same beach year after year, so do families and friends attending the West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade.  Nicole and her family usually stand near the Gasland gas Station, across the street from Dunkin Donuts.

As the WOPD got to the area, they stopped. Gillo left the line to approach Nicole, and getting down on one knee, asked for her hand in marriage.  Shocked, Nicole composed herself long enough to, of course, say yes, as the crowd -- and the WOFD, cheered.

The parade then continued along Main Street, leaving behind memories that will last a lifetime for Nick and Nicole.

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
