WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Area Y Aquaducks will perform their 21st annual Synchronized Swimming Show at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 1 p.m. on Nov. 24 at the Westfield Area Y, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.

“Synchronized swimming is a beautiful sport. It is a combination of ballet and gymnastics all done in the water,” said Aquaducks Head Coach Kate Johnson. “Most people think of synchronized swimming as what they see on Saturday Night Live, when in fact is a very challenging and wonderful sport. Our swimmers spend an average of 10 hours a week at practice and additional hours outside of practice on strength and conditioning. They are dedicated to the sport and this passion makes the show an exciting experience.”

The Aquaducks are the only competitive synchronized swimming team in New Jersey. The group of 40 girls, who range in age from seven to 18, combine athletic swimming and dance skills to create their performances, which include multi-swimmer team routines as well as solos, duets and trios.

“Our show features our competitive routines from the previous season, which have earned us places at national competitions. We also feature some great show routines to popular music with crowd-pleasing acrobatics and tricks,” said Johnson. “Most importantly, our show is our largest fundraiser for the season. This year our teams will be traveling to Seattle, Washington, to compete in the US Age Group National Competition. All proceeds raised at the show are used to help train our athletes.”

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Seating is limited and the show often sells out early, according to Johnson. Tickets are available at the Welcome Center of the Westfield Area Y or by emailing Snacks, gifts and raffles will be available at the performances.
