WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Area Y invites members of the community to celebrate its 90th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Rain or shine, free activities will take place inside the Y and outside on Ferris Place.
Free activities for the whole family will include inflatable obstacle courses, bounce house, a DJ playing music from the 1930s through today, an indoor climbing wall, sand art necklaces, a balloon artist, face painting, Westfield Area Y and Y-USA History Trivia, Healthy U kids games, an interactive nutrition activity, soft-play fun for smaller children and an opportunity to paint your own vision of the Y on the Y’s large canvas.
Participants will enjoy prizes and giveaways, as well as free refreshments for everyone, including hot dogs, fruit, popcorn, water and ices. Ices to be donated by Uncle Louie G Italian Ices and Ice Cream of Westfield.
The Westfield Food Pantry will be on-site collecting healthy food donations. The pantry is specifically requesting powdered milk (packaged as individual envelopes), fruit in cans (preferably in water), beans (dried or canned), tuna, peanut butter, 100% fruit juice boxes and canned tomatoes/tomato sauce. No glass, please.
Flu shots will also be available that day, provided by CVS Pharmacy, from noon until 3:00 p.m. Co-pays will vary. Bring your insurance card.
The Westfield Area Y has served the communities of Cranford, Garwood, Mountainside and Westfield since 1923. It has approximately 11,000 members and provides a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of each generation.
Programs at the Y are designed to build self-esteem and sharpen skills while developing strong character. Program areas include Child Care Education, Youth and Teen Development, Family Strengthening, Day Camp, Sports, Aquatics, Adult and Senior Health & Wellness and World Service.
