Artist Kathie Stamou (www.kathiestamou.com) introduces her Moot to Cute Collection. Kathie is originally from New York, but had the opportunity to live 8 years in Europe. She traveled extensively while there and collected materials and inspiration for her unusual designs.
"Now that I'm back in the states, I have more room to spread out and have started collecting interesting pieces of furniture and home accessories to repurpose into something fabulous. My studio is a smorgasbord of materials."
Changing mediums seems to be a trend with Kathie as she moved from knits to jewelry and now re purposes furniture, creates mixed-media wall art and one-of-a-kind home accessories. Kathie loves to think outside the box and often incorporates materials used in her jewelry collections creating some really unique pieces. She loves the unusual and you should not be surprised to find, plumbing washers, tiles, leather, fishing rope, slate, old jewelry... in her new pieces.
Interest in art started early as she has been knitting and crocheting since she was a child. Her business began when she moved to Dublin and started to create fabulous scarves, hats, art pieces and more, usually working without a pattern. Kathie's interests then evolved into making jewelry and armed with beautiful fine yarns, and some slate salvaged from Irish rooftops, she incorporated her knitting and crocheting skills into some really interesting pieces.
Kathie also tries to use recycled materials whenever possible and always donates a portion of the proceeds to the MJF foundation for Parkinson's.
Kathie's pieces can be viewed and purchased on her website - or in person if you message her for an appointment. Www.kathiestamou.com
